ABILENE UNDERGRADUATE AND GRADUATE RESIDENTIAL STUDENTS

To support the university in its COVID-19 management efforts, the office of University Access Programs will serve as the central location for requesting all COVID-related accommodations.

A student who contracts COVID-19 and experiences a significant health event or major life impairment should be referred to Alpha Scholars. This includes students who are already registered with Alpha Scholars or have never been registered previously.

This creates a consistent student experience, manages expectations for faculty and students, and allows ACU to have a clear institutional picture of the impact of COVID-19 on its student body.

Any student who contracts COVID-19 and needs assistance can request an accommodation via the regular Alpha applicationthe COVID Request for Academic Accommodation Form; or by contacting a faculty member about health complications, the need for accommodations, adjusted due dates, or any other academic support due to the impacts of illness. If contacted, the faculty and/or staff member should notify Alpha Scholars through an email to alpha@acu.edu.

Documentation of a positive diagnosis is encouraged but not required for students to receive COVID-related accommodations; however, should a health event last past the 14 day quarantine period for which accommodations are being requested, additional documentation may be requested or required.

Students with a positive COVID diagnosis may apply for provisional (temporary) accommodations during their period of illness and, if applicable, submit documentation to the Alpha Scholars program.

Requests for accommodations will be considered on a case-by-case basis by the ADA Compliance Officer and in conjunction with an ad hoc committee. The review committee will consist of representation from ACU's Medical Services, Student Services, Financial Counseling, and Disability Services.

Please be aware that only official accommodations determined by the Alpha Scholars office are guaranteed to students. Therefore, it is highly encouraged that all requests for academic accommodations due to COVID-19 be made through Alpha Scholars.
