Academic and Career Advising

The primary focus of the Connections office is to provide students with the skills, opportunities, and experiences to successfully manage their class scheduling and prepare to start a career. COBA has a team of professionals who help students work through this critical developmental process. Our academic advisors focus on degree plans and course schedules and partner with our career specialists who focus on the professional development requirements for various career starts that students can achieve with a business degree.

Academic Advising:  Scheduling classes to complete a degree plan in a timely manner can be a challenging puzzle. Our advisors help students schedule and complete a degree plan that aligns with their career ambitions. Each semester, business majors meet with an academic advisor to make sure that the student is maximizing their course work and professional development experience to support their goals at graduation. During the academic advising meeting, an individual discussion is provided that helps the advisor better understand the student’s goals and progress. This meeting enables the advisor to recommend key actions both in terms of course scheduling and professional development that will help business students achieve a good start on their career.

Professional Development Advising: Career specialists focus on the professional development requirements for various career starts that students can achieve with a business degree. The advising services include cover letter writing, resume writing, internship and job search assistance.

In addition, the Connections office partners with the ACU Career Center and CareerLink, a database of internship and full-time job positions that are at the fingertips of all ACU students. All job and internship postings are logged in the CareerLink system. In addition, all on-campus interviewing opportunities are logged in the CareerLink system. Students learn how to work with the Career Center and the CareerLink system through training sessions offered by the Career Specialist. Find out more about ACU's Career Center.
