Our Mission

In our vibrant, Christ-centered community, we aim to contribute to our students’ spiritual and intellectual growth in ways that encourage confidence and vocational formation.

The mission of Abilene Christian University is to educate students for Christian leadership and service throughout the world. We achieve our mission through exemplary teaching, offered by an innovative and caring community of Christian scholars, that inspires a commitment to lifelong learning; significant research, grounded in the university’s disciplinary strengths, that informs and impacts issues of global importance to the academy, church, and society; and meaningful service as a divine calling that enriches our global society, academic disciplines, the university, and the church to God’s glory.

For Such a Time as This

In 2013, the Board of Trustees published For Such a Time as This, an articulation of ACU’s mission of Christian teaching. This Christ-centered model allows the inspired Word of God to guide the institution’s decision-making. Rooted in these values, ACU pursues sound and innovative educational principles to fully equip students for lives of Christian service and leadership.

Promise

ACU is a vibrant, innovative, Christ-centered community that engages students in authentic spiritual and intellectual growth, equipping them to make a real difference in the world.

21st-Century Vision

Published in 2010, ACU’s 21st-Century Vision lays out our path as a premier university for Christ-centered, global leaders. Built upon rigorous academics and leadership development, we are preparing talented students to become Christ’s “salt and light” in the world. Four objectives guide this vision:

  1. ACU will produce leaders who think critically, globally and missionally.
  2. ACU will build distinctive and innovative programs.
  3. ACU will deliver a unique, Christ-centered experience that draws students into community.
  4. ACU will expand its Christian influence and educational reach nationally and internationally.

Our Enduring Core Values

As unknowns surround us in a rapidly-changing world, ACU turns to the foundational values that shape who we are and what we do as an institution and community. Our distinctive worldview is affirmed through:

Academic Innovation

Rigorous critical thinking and academic exploration shape our calling to teach, research and mentor.

Spiritual Depth

Missional living and spiritual formation are centered in our campus culture.

Relational Focus

Fortified and nurtured relationships become deep bonds between students, faculty, staff and alumni.

Intentional Diversity

Members of our community from all ethnic, racial and gender backgrounds are created and beloved in God’s image.

Sustainable Excellence

Evidence-based decisions undergird our commitment to economic, high-quality programs.
