How do I apply to the ACU MA in English?

When is the ACU MA in English deadline to apply?
We make rolling admission decisions year round, so there is no specific deadline. However, the earlier an application is submitted, the better -- particularly for students wanting to apply for a Graduate Assistantship.
Is there an application fee?
Yes, there is a $50 application fee.
Is there a minimum GPA or GRE score required for consideration?
The minimum undergraduate GPA is a 3.0. There is no minimum GRE score requirement.
What is an appropriate length for the purpose statement?
An appropriate length for the purpose statement is 1-2 pages.
Is there a minimum length for the writing sample? Do I need to write something new or can I submit an undergraduate paper?
There is not an official minimum length for the writing sample; however, it should be more than a 3-4 page essay. Undergraduate writing samples are welcome.
Are prerequisites required?
At least 12 hours of upper-division English courses are required.
*If the student fails to meet all of the criteria described above, he/she can be admitted conditionally based on demonstration of academic potential and fit with the program.
How many entry terms are offered each year?
Students can apply for a fall (August) or spring (January) entry term.
What is the length of the program?
Students complete the program in 2 years.
Do students choose a specific track or specialization?
Students do not choose a specific track or specialization. We offer courses in literature, composition/rhetoric, and also options for creative writing.
Can I receive credit for courses that I’ve completed at another university?
Yes, upon approval of the Program Director.
Is there a part time option?
Yes, students can enroll part time.
Are scholarships offered?
Yes, admitted students can apply for scholarship consideration.
Are graduate assistant positions available? If yes, what does a GA position entail?
Yes, we offer different levels of GAs, depending on the student’s progress in the program. GA positions offer opportunities to work in the Writing Center, to work as a Research Assistant, and also to teach freshman-level composition courses.
How will this program prepare me for doctoral work?
Many of our MA students start PhD programs immediately after completing the program. We offer a wide range of courses that allow our students the chance to explore various options for PhD specialties. Almost all of our students who pursue PhD programs do very well, and the majority of them receive some type of funding at those programs.
Can I meet with the program director or attend an open house?
Yes, definitely! Prospective students are encouraged to meet with the Program Director over the phone or in person during a campus visit.
