Updates to Library Services

Ongoing updates on library services in light of the coronavirus (COVID-19)

Latest Updates

  • The ACU Library is committed to providing services to both faculty and students during this challenging time. The library is open normal semester hours: Monday – Thursday 7:30am – 12:00am.  Friday 7:30am – 7:00pm. Saturday 10am – 7pm. Sunday 2:00pm – 12:00pm. Face masks are required while in the building.
  • All Interlibrary Loan policies are as normal, including the requesting of physical books, overdue policies, and Interlibrary Loan Probation. We are still experiencing shipping delays, so physical books may take up to a month to arrive.
  • For those who are not able to come to the library, many resources are available in electronic format and accessible from any computer off‐campus via ACU Single-Sign-On authentication. These resources can be found through the library website at https://www.acu.edu/library. Many of our databases are responsive to mobile devices, including phones and tablets.
  • Should you need help locating specific resources or have issues accessing databases or other electronic sources, you can contact us through our virtual reference service by following this link:  http://asklibrary.acu.edu/. Our Ask-a-Librarian virtual reference services will be provided through chat in the afternoons and evenings. If our chat service is not being monitored, the service will send an email with your question. There are librarians who are tasked with responding to emails as they come in. If you have a more complicated issue, you can contact Melinda Isbell at 325.674.2969.

Other Library Services

Circulation and Book Checkout

  • All circulating books are available for checkout. When returned, books will be quarantined for 24 hours. If you need a book that is in quarantine, you can check it out at your own risk.

Interlibrary Loan

(materials from libraries outside of Abilene)

  • Both articles and physical books are available to request
  • All ILL Policies are as normal, including Overdue policies and Interlibrary Loan Probation (Please see the Interlibrary Loan Libguide for more information).
  • Due to shipping delays, wait times may be longer than normal, especially for physical books. Please allow up to a month for physical books to arrive.

ACU Writing Center

  • Service provided online until further announcements.

Scholars Lab

Learning Studio

  • Desk – This fall, our front desk will be staffed with one student Media Assistant during all the same hours as the library, starting at 8am (of course weekends are different).
  • Spaces – Patrons may reserve a space as usual – online, over the phone, or in person. Time slots are limited to 45-minutes per person, per day. Patrons may enter the room at the hour mark, and must be cleared out by a quarter ’till the hour. So the last 15 minutes of every hour are set aside to aerate and disinfect the rooms. My student workers are managing that on their own for now, so they’re quite occupied.
  • Gear – Our checkout pool is open for academic use. Much of our gear cannot be properly disinfected, so to keep the gear safe, it will have a 48-hour waiting period before it can be put back on the shelf.

Maker Lab

  • Open by reservation only.  Click here to make a reservation.

Computer Labs

  • Both computer labs are currently open with a limited number of available computers and socially distanced seating.
