May 17, 2021 – Face mask-optional decision

ACU community,

Based on new CDC guidance and effective immediately, ACU is moving to a face mask-optional environment for fully vaccinated individuals – excluding classrooms and other instructional spaces. In addition, our campus will be face mask-optional for guests, including future students and their families.

This decision is based on scientific studies showing that vaccinated people are highly unlikely to carry or transmit the virus that causes COVID-19.

We will reevaluate this policy for Summer 2 (which begins June 1), pending further changes from the CDC and local health department professionals, and the growing number of faculty, staff and students who are vaccinated.

While vaccinations are not required of faculty, staff and students, we strongly encourage them as an effective tool in ensuring a return to quality public health for our campus and local community. The ACU Medical Clinic has Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines available at no cost.

Thank you for your diligence in helping us avoid major coronavirus outbreaks and for moving us closer to as normal a living and learning environment as possible in Fall 2021.

With gratitude,

Phil Schubert, Ed.D.
President
