March 4, 2020 – Message to students
Dear ACU Abilene Students,
Spring Break is a wonderful time for you to get rest, go on various trips, or hang out with family and friends. Before you leave, please take time to read the following important information.
The well-being of all members of our ACU community is our highest priority. To that end, we want you to know we are continually monitoring the global threat of the new coronavirus (COVID-19).
We have been gathering information from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the U.S. State Department, the World Health Organization (WHO), as well as information provided by our state and local health departments. We are using these threat assessments to inform decisions about the ACU community. To date, there are no known cases of coronavirus locally. However, we should all exercise caution and take preventative measures, especially while traveling.
With Spring Break approaching, we know many of you are going home or traveling to other places. We urge you to stay informed of ongoing developments of the spread of the virus and encourage you to monitor CDC updates. If a location reaches Level 3 status, we strongly advise you not to travel. The CDC has issued a Level 3 (i.e., reconsider travel) advisory for China, South Korea, Iran and Italy due to the spread of COVID-19 in these countries. The virus is spreading quickly, and the CDC could issue alerts for other countries in the days and weeks ahead. This is a rapidly changing situation.
At this time, our Study Abroad programs in Oxford, Leipzig and Montevideo are ongoing while we continue to assess any potential threat in those locales.
University leadership will continue to evaluate the potential impact of this virus, and will implement any necessary measures to keep our community safe. We will share additional information as it becomes available.
Thank you for your attention to these important matters. I’m praying you travel safely and enjoy your time away!
