Classes and academics for students

Student Learning Update

In the spring 2021 semester fewer than 12 percent of residential classes are being taught remotely. The balance of classes are being taught as independent study or in person, with allowances for students who are assigned to remote instruction because of isolation or quarantine. The class times for Spring 2021 will be the same as in Fall 2020. No classes are scheduled on Saturdays or Sundays.

Classroom spaces continue to provide 6-foot physical distancing between students, with instructors distanced 10 feet away from the class. We continue to provide enhanced sanitization efforts, resources for health screenings, access to personal protective supplies, and workplace and classroom wellness guidance. These protocols, along with heightened attention to personal hygiene and self-care, means we will all continue to do our part to protect our community.

To ensure all classrooms are disinfected between each session, class schedules allow 20 minutes in between classes. Additionally, class schedules are being staggered to avoid large gatherings at The Bean or other common areas.

Our spring plan reflects a continued commitment to preserve the health and well-being of our campus community and fulfill our mission of providing a transformative residential experience for our students. ACU will remain flexible as new information continues to emerge in the coming weeks and months.

Residential and Student Life Update

All residence halls will continue to be open this spring. Students can move in beginning January 8. Meal plans will begin Jan. 8, and we will continue to accept meal plans in The Bean during Spring Break for students who choose to stay on campus.

There will be enhanced sanitization procedures, wellness guidance and resources available for health screenings. Attention to proper hygiene and self-care will be critically important as we work to keep our residential community healthy and safe.

ACU’s large Chapel gathering has been adjusted for social distancing and will meet only when it is safe to do so. Small group chapels continue to meet. Other ACU traditions that involve large gatherings and activities, many of which occur outdoors, are still being assessed. A Student Life subcommittee of the University Events committee will oversee and approve all student activities this spring. They are working hard to ensure our students have a vibrant experience on campus, while following local and state guidelines.
