Young men and women have represented ACU in track and field stadiums across the globe – setting world records, winning championships and bringing gold medals back to their dorm rooms. Now, after many years at venerable Elmer Gray Stadium, the Texas Sports Dynasty of the 20th century is about to get a home worthy of the 21st.
As Wildcat Stadium moves into the Gray Stadium footprint, a state-of-the-art facility will rise next door for the track and field, and soccer programs.
This stadium will provide ACU track and field with a venue that better suits its needs, both immediate and long-term while offering to student-athletes a location in which they can find community and connection.
With dozens of regional and national championships, ACU’s track and field program is a story of success. Now its students will write a new chapter in one of the best track and field stadiums in Texas, one befitting the stature of the legends who have gone before them.
As track and field enters its 10th decade at ACU, women’s soccer enters its eighth season. Already with an impressive .649 winning percentage and two conference titles, the program has proven that it, too, will continue the heritage of Wildcat excellence begun by women and men in the track and field program.
These two programs will share a stadium, beneficiaries of the generosity of donors who understand that world-class programs – and world-class student-athletes – require world-class facilities to sustain them.
The new stadium is scheduled to begin construction in Fall 2014, pending completion of fundraising.
