Are you a user of the Home, Classes, and Dropbox folders? Below are several helpful hints on what to do and not to do when using this system.
eClass and Blackboard are two different systems.
eClass is accessed through Files tab in myACU and drives mapped on the computer in the labs. Blackboard is accessed by clicking on the “Bb” icon under the “Academics” tab in myACU. Do not use the dropbox feature in Blackboard since your professors want you to turn in your work using the eClass system.
Always save files that you are working on to your desktop or a local directory.
Working from files on the server creates unneeded delays during saves and periodic backups. It also places the file at risk of corruption if the network or servers go down while the file is being edited online. Save, save often, and save locally.
Be aware of the file space quota.
All students are given a 100 megabyte quota. When you exceed your file quota, you will no longer be able to save files to your home or class directories. You will receive a warning email each day with instructions on how to resolve this issue. After 21 straight days of being over your quota, your account will be locked. You can check your quota at any time by accessing the File Space Quota Tool in the Home tab of myACU.
If you need more file space, ask. You can have your file quota
increased for academic purposes by contacting Team55.
Remember - files don’t transport immediately.
Dropbox files are transported every 7 minutes between 6am and 10pm. Returnbox files are transported every 10 minutes between 6am and 10pm. Large files may take longer to show up.
When in doubt, check the log. The eClass Activity Viewer logs each and every file that is transported to/from a dropbox or return box. The notification denotes if the copy was successful or generates an error message on the rare occasion if it was not. The tool is accessed by clicking the eClass Ativity Viewer in the Files tab of myACU.
Don’t send your only copy!
Keep a copy for yourself in case something happens. It only takes seconds to make a copy but it might take hours to redo your work from scratch.
Do not rename the class folders and do not move them to another location.
The server expects the folders it created to be in specific locations with the names they were created with. Changing folder names or locations causes things not to work properly. You can make your own folders and call them whatever you want, just leave the names and locations of server folders the same.
Got a problem? Let us know.
We can’t help if we don’t know about your problem. Contact Team55 if you experience any problems with the eClass system. We would love to make your eClass experience more rewarding and completely trouble free.
