Policy
As of October 1, 2003, all computers on the ACU campus will be labeled using the owner’s ACU domain username. Multiple computers will be named using the owners ACU domain username with an additional serialized numeral following. Computers used for student employees will be named according to the location, building, and room number. Computers named improperly will be disconnected from the network. Failure to correct the computer name will forfeit technical support for that user.
Overview of issue
Positive owner identification and location of computing devices attached to the ACU data network is difficult, time consuming, and resource intensive. Malfunctions or misuse of computing devices can result in widespread disruption of the data network and adversely affect campus users ability to work. Timeliness, ownership, and location are vital to effective management and resolution of computing issues.
