Office 2007 - Faculty/Staff
As many are already aware, Microsoft has recently released Office 2007
to the public. ACU is currently deploying this new version of Office
to the campus for the Fall semester of 2007. We realize that it is
important that you prepared for this change and understand that there
may be several things you have to do in order to accommodate those that
have not upgraded.

How do I get Office 2007?
Faculty and Staff members that would like to upgrade to Office 2007 can visit our
AppCenter to download and install the new application for their ACU owned computers.
We would also like to remind you that
Microsoft has not released a new version of Office 2007 for the
Macintosh platform yet. Please review the file compatibility
information below if you are sharing a document with a Mac user.
File Compatibility
In
Office 2007 the DEFAULT file format is .XML. Extensions for files
created in the new format will include docx, xlsx, and etc. What this
means is that by default, older versions of Office can't open a
document created in Office 2007.
To ease file compatibility
when you share a document we recommend that you save the document in an
Office 2003 format. This will ensure that others who have not upgraded
will still be able to open your documents.
How do I get around the file format issue?
If
you need to share a document with a user who has a older version of
Office go ahead and save it in an Office 2003 format, however, this
will eliminate access to certain Office 2007 features.
Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack
- This pack allows Office 2000, XP, and 2003 users to open and save
their files to an Office 2007 format. If you are running and older
version of office we recommend that you install the compatibility
patch. This pack will not work on the Macintosh version of office.
They will release a new version of office for OSX next year.
Open XML File Format Converter for Mac
- With the Open XML Converter, you can convert Office 2007 files to a
format that is compatible with Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac and
Microsoft Office v. X for Mac. You can choose to convert and open one
file, or convert a large number of files.
