Questions About the New Email System

What is G-Day?

G-Day is the day that we will allow everyone to opt into this new system.  As this day approaches you will begin to see more information about how to make the transition.

When can I start?

Starting April 11, 2007 (G-Day) we will give faculty, staff, and students the option to opt into the new system.  The old email system will be decommissioned in September of 2007 so everyone will have several months to make the switch.

How do I opt in?

Simply log into myACU and click on the Webmail tab after April 11th. Once you complete the three step process everything will be setup.

Will my email address change?

No, your email address will stay the same but your messages will now come to Gmail instead of Webmail.  Just think, you won't have to spend time letting everyone know your new email address.

Will I still be able to use an email client like Outlook?

Yes, you can check your mail using an email client.  Your connection settings will have to change but you will still be able to use the same applications that you use now.

What about my old email?

Your previous email will still be available on the old system until September of 2007.  Once you have opted into Gmail we will provide you with instructional videos to help you move your email over.

Where can I learn more about Gmail?

Take the Gmail tour.  This demonstration will help introduce you to the new system as well as show you some of these new and amazing features.

How do I import the Faculty/Staff Directory into Gmail ormy email client?

You can import the Faculty/Staff Directory into the Gmail web interface or the client you currently use (Eudora, Outlook, Thunderbird, Mail.App, etc.). There are data extracts available to employees that include name and email address only, or an extract that includes all of the Hello Book directory information. For instructions, see Importing Contacts.

How do I import my contacts from Eudora into Gmailwhen there is no export option?

If you have just a few contacts or groups in Eudora, it is faster to manually enter them into Gmail by using copy and paste features. However, if you have multiple distribution lists or groups it is best to convert Eudora to another client like Thunderbird or Outlook, then export your Address Book from there since Eudora does not have an export option. This will produce a clean .csv (comma separated value) file that is easily imported into Gmail. If you would like help with this, join us for a Gmail Open Lab. The Helpdesk staff will be there to assist you.
