Who We Are

who we are. The Shinnery Review is a student-produced literary magazine with a staff of dedicated volunteers. Our annually produced magazine contains works of poetry, fiction, non-fiction and art by undergraduate and graduate students at Abilene Christian University. We, the current Shinnery staff, continue a tradition of student publication begun by The Pickwicker more than six decades ago.

our purpose. We publish the Shinnery Review each year in order to offer all students at ACU a place to express their voices through the literary and visual arts and to encourage continual spiritual growth through the exploration of new ideas and the cultivation of God-given creative gifts.

In order to reflect the ever-increasing diversity of the ACU student body, the Shinnery invites a range of responses to life and the complex world in which we live.

our voices. Many of the staff's selections naturally embody Christian devotion and conviction.  This is in keeping with the tradition of writers and artists utilizing their gifts to comunicate in a fresh form the beliefs central to this institution's mission. Some of the works appearing in the Shinnery Review from year to year will approach their subject matter by raising questions or by probing difficult areas. Other works may explore life's meaning through non-traditional methods, perhaps guided by a believing heart but spurred by an unsatisfied intellect.

our thanks. Part of the university's vision is to welcome students of any race, religion or creed.  We share in this vision by publishing contributions from a variety of perspectives.  We have enjoyed and been challenged by the works submitted each year. Thank you for your contributions.
