Pledging

 flames

During the pledging period, GATA’s pledges (called “Flames”) share in many memorable events.  These events are used to encourage bonding among the Flames as well as with the GATA members.  The Flames are required to visit with each member during the pledging period.  The Flames also form an intramural flag-football team which helps them in learning to work as a team while playing other social clubs’ pledge teams.

The largest activities the Flames will participate in while pledging are the planning of the GATA Grub and the Homecoming events, which consists of working at the GATA Homecoming Breakfast, making the GATA homecoming float, and marching in the homecoming parade.

A Flame can be spotted around campus in her freshly starched, white-collared, button-down shirt with red skirt and her red close-toed shoes.  She will also have on her red lipstick, red fingernail polish, and pledge-pin.  This outfit is known as her formal colors which she wears proudly!

Flames are encouraged throughout pledging with the help of their Big Sis and Brat brother.  Her Big Sis is a member of GATA who assists the Flame in many events and is there for her when the times get stressful.  Her Brat brother is a fellow pledge from GATA’s brother club, Frater Sodalis

Pledging begins with Bid Night and lasts approximately six weeks.  Bid night is an all-night event which gives the Flames a chance to learn club traditions and more about the GATA history and members.

The 2007 GATA pledge class consisted of 10 Flames.  They chose the pledge class name of "Cherry Cherry Bom Boms." Their pledge class officers were:

Vice President           Ashley Decker

Secretary                 Loran Bradshaw

Social Director          Amy Finn

Intramural Director   Maria Fischer
