ACU selected as featured university on iTunes U

 

ACU was selected as one of 28 universities in the country to be featured on Apple's iTunes U site. ACU shares the list with such schools as MIT, Duke and Cal-Berkeley. By making content available on iTunes U, anyone can download speeches, lectures, academic programs, professors' podcasts, student media publications and videos, as well as learn about campus life and ACU history.

ACU ALERT - when seconds count

 

In its continuing effort to ensure the safety of its students, faculty and staff, Abilene Christian University has recently purchased a new emergency notification system. Powered by e2Campus OMNILERT, it enables the university to send urgent messages to the cell phones and email accounts of all registered students, faculty and staff.

 

ACU named to Customer Advisory Board for Google Apps

 

Google named Abilene Christian University to the first Customer Advisory Board (CAB) for Google Apps, a group consisting of six universities from across the nation. ACU fully deployed Google Apps for education products this year, including Gmail and Google Calendar.

 

ACU researches uses of iPhone in higher education

 

Last fall, Abilene Christian University began to explore campus-wide benefits of converged mobile devices such as the Apple iPhone in higher education. In a pilot study of faculty and educational technology developers, the group is researching innovative applications for smart phones and media players in deepening learning in the 21st century. In addition, ACU is exploring how these converged mobile devices can help foster community on campus and facilitate administrative tasks.

 

AT&T Foundation awards $1 million to ACU

 

Abilene Christian University was presented with a grant of $1 million from the AT&T Foundation for technology in the new Bob and Shirley Hunter Welcome Center. State Sen. Troy Fraser (R – Horseshoe Bay) joined with ACU leaders to announce the grant, which will be distributed to the university over a three-year period. The funds will be used to create the technology infrastructure of the Hunter Welcome Center, which will include a high-tech telecommunications system, state-of-the-art electronic media capabilities and computer operations and connectivity to the main campus systems.
