Wildcats extend winning streaks

ACU wins 21st overall, 32nd straight at Moody Coliseum

ABILENE -- ACU extended a pair of lengthy winning streaks Thursday night with a 3-0 sweep of Tarleton State in a Lone Star Conference South Division match at Moody Coliseum.

The Wildcats (21-3 overall and 6-0 in the LSC South Division) knocked off the TexAnns, 30-15, 30-25, 30-15, to win their school-record 21st straight match.  The win also pushed the Wildcats' home-court winning streak to 32 straight matches, which is tied for the 12th-longest such streak in NCAA Division II volleyball history.

ACU, ranked No. 13 in the nation and No. 3 in the NCAA Division II Southwest Region, celebrated Senior Night against the TexAnns as outside hitter Michelle Bernhardt, setter Lindsey Martin, rightside hitter Ashlee Motola and middle blocker Amanda Slate each played in their final regular-season home match.  That foursome has won 45 of 49 home matches in their four seasons together with three of the four losses coming in their freshman season of 2002.

Bernhardt continued to creep closer to becoming just the fourth player in LSC history to record 2,000 career kills as she had a team-best 13 kills against the TexAnns to give her 1,961 in her career.  Sophomore outside hitter Abbie Lowry added 11 kills, while Slate -- this week's LSC South Division Hitter of the Week -- had six kills and eight total blocks.
