LAWTON, Okla. -- The ACU volleyball team will try to extend its current seven-match winning streak Tuesday when it takes on Cameron in a Lone Star Conference crossover match at Aggie Gym.
The Wildcats (14-5) and Lady Aggies (10-8) are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. After Tuesday's match at Cameron, the Wildcats will head south to San Antonio where they will play Incarnate Word at 7 p.m. Friday, followed by a 2 p.m. match Saturday at St. Mary's.
ACU has been red-hot in the month of September, winning 13 of 15 matches in the month, including its last seven straight. ACU's current winning streak began on Sept. 19 with a 3-0 win over Southern Arkansas at the Texas A&M-Commerce Tournament.
Last weekend the Wildcats were one of only two teams (West Texas A&M is the other) to go unbeaten at 3-0 through the LSC Crossover Tournament. ACU got its perfect run through the tournament started Friday with a 3-2 win over Texas Woman's. ACU then beat both Midwestern State and Texas A&M-Commerce by three games apiece to close out the tournament.
The Wildcats have been led all season by sophomore outside hitter Michelle Bernhardt, who is putting together a special season. She leads the team with 320 kills and is second with 187 digs. She had 52 kills and a .317 hitting percentage last weekend at the crossover tournament.
Bernhardt is third in the LSC in hitting percentage (.307) and second in both kills (320) and kills per game (4.49).
Sophomore setter Lindsey Martin earned LSC South Division Setter of the Week honors Monday afternoon after racking up 189 assists last week to help ACU to a 4-0 week. She had 145 assists last weekend in the crossover tournament, including 60 in the five-game win over Texas Woman's.
Martin leads the LSC in total assists with 813, but is second to West Texas A&M's all-America setter Kendra Morgan in assists per game at 11.78 (Morgan averages 11.93 apg).
Sophomore middle blocker Amanda Slate is third on the team in kills with 202 and is seventh in the LSC in hitting percentage at .270. Junior libero Kellen Morrow leads the Wildcats in digs with 248.
