Wildcats enjoy 3-1 weekend

ACU knocks off three Gulf South opponents in Commerce

COMMERCE -- ACU continued its recent hot stretch of play over the weekend by going 3-1 in the Texas A&M-Commerce Invitational and running its record to 10-5 on the season.

The Wildcats, who entered the invitational with a five-match winning streak, immediately saw that go by the board with a five-game loss to Harding, 27-30, 30-28, 30-24, 21-30, 15-13.  ACU, rallied, however, to win its final three matches, all in three games.  First ACU beat Southern Arkansas (30-17, 30-24, 30-22) in their second match Friday, and then followed that with two easy victories Saturday over Henderson State (Ark.) and Central Arkansas.

The Wildcats knocked off Henderson State by the scores of 30-25, 30-15, 30-24, and then finished off the invitational with a 30-19, 30-20, 30-25 win over Central Arkansas.

Sophomore outside hitter Michelle Bernhardt led the Wildcats with 59 kills and 49 digs and a .262 hitting percentage during the weekend.  She had 29 kills and 26 digs in the loss to Harding, the second time this she's had at least 29 kills in a match (31 vs. Colorado State-Pueblo on Sept. 6).

Sophomore setter Lindsey Martin had 146 assists, 39 digs and seven kills in the four matches, while sophomore middle blocker Amanda Slate had 43 kills and 19 digs in the invitational.

ACU will return to action Tuesday at 7 p.m. when its hosts Lubbock Christian in a non-conference match at Moody Coliseum.
