ACU riding five-match winning streak into TAMC Inv.

ACU to face Gulf South Conference teams in tournament

COMMERCE -- The ACU volleyball team will carry its five-match winning streak east this weekend as it plays in the Texas A&M-Commerce Invitational at the TAMC Fieldhouse.

The Wildcats are 7-4 and have won five straight after getting off to a 2-4 start to the season. ACU won three straight matches at home last week to run its streak to five straight wins. The final win in the streak came last Saturday as the Wildcats outlasted St. Edward's in five games at Moody Coliseum.

ACU will open the tournament Friday at 9 a.m. against Harding, followed by a 3 p.m. game against Southern Arkansas. The Wildcats will then play at 9 a.m. Saturday against Henderson State (Ark.) And at 3 p.m. against Central Arkansas.

The Wildcats -- picked to finish second in the Lone Star Conference South Division this season behind West Texas A&M -- are one of just five LSC teams over the .500 mark early in the season, and, along with WTAM, one of just two teams over .500 in the LSC South Division.

Sophomore outside hitter Michelle Bernhardt is second in the league in hitting percentage at .302 and third in kills with 184. Sophomore setter Lindsey Martin is second in the league in both overall assists (478 to 537 by West Texas A&M’ Kendra Morgan) and assists per game (11.12 to 11.43 for Morgan).

ACU is second in the league in hitting percentage (.210 to .217 for West Texas A&M) and assists per game (12.35 to 13.89 for West Texas A&M). ACU leads the league in blocks per game at 2.33 and is second in total blocks with 122 (Midwestern State with 148 leads the LSC).
