ACU back in post-season tournament after 2002 absence
ABILENE -- The ACU Wildcats clinched the No. 2 seed from the Lone Star Conference South Division on Saturday, and that has earned them a quarterfinal date with Cameron at the LSC Post-Season Tournament in Canyon.
The Wildcats (25-10) will take on Cameron (20-11 and the No. 3 seed from the LSC North Division) at 5 p.m. Thursday in the first match of the tournament. The second match Thursday night will pit Eastern New Mexico (#3 South) against Texas Woman's (#2 North) at 7:30 p.m.
The Wildcats swept both Tarleton State and Texas A&M-Kingsville over the weekend to finish 7-3 in the division standings. ENMU also finished 7-3 in the division, but ACU won the No. 2 seed with a tiebreaker edge over the Zias. The Wildcats' No. 2 seeding means they won't have to face four-time defending conference champion and tournament host West Texas A&M until a possible Saturday night championship match.
An ACU quarterfinal win over Cameron would put it into the semifinals for only the second time in school history (2000) against Central Oklahoma at 5 p.m. Friday.
