Wildcats fall into 3rd in LSC South

ACU can still claim No. 2 seed with two wins this weekend

ABILENE -- The ACU volleyball team fell into third place in the Lone Star Conference South Division over the weekend with a pair of losses at West Texas A&M and Eastern New Mexico.

The Wildcats dropped their 22nd straight match to the Lady Buffs on Friday night, falling 30-25, 30-26, 30-26, and then lost in five games Saturday at Eastern New Mexico, 17-30, 30-25, 27-30, 30-23, 15-12.  ACU has now lost three straight matches to fall to 22-10 overall and 5-3 in the LSC South Division.

West Texas A&M, meanwhile, finishes the conference season at 9-1 in the LSC South and will host the LSC Post-Season Tournament, Nov. 13-15, at the WTAM Field House.  The Zias finish conference play at 7-3 and are in second place in the LSC South.

ACU is in third at 5-3, but has already clinched a spot in the conference tournament.  The Wildcats can finish no worse than 5-5 in conference play, while fourth-place Angelo State can finish no better than 5-5 in LSC play.  ACU swept the Rambelles this season to capture the head-to-head tiebreaker.

The Wildcats can still clinch the South Division's No. 2 seed in the post-season tournament if it can sweep Tarleton State (Friday at 7 p.m. in Moody Coliseum) and Texas A&M-Kingsville (Saturday at 2 p.m. in Moody Coliseum) to improve to 7-3.  ACU would be tied in record with Eastern New Mexico, but after the two teams are tied through the conference's first two tiebreaker rules, ACU wins the No. 2 spot by virtue of the league's third tiebreaker rule, which is head-to-head game competition.  Despite splitting with the Zias, ACU won five of eight games against Eastern New Mexico this season.
