Wildcats get off to 1-3 start

ACU drops final 3 matches at Rockhurst Inv.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- ACU dropped its final three matches last weekend at the season-opening Rockhurst Invitational, including two losses on Saturday.

ACU opened the invitational tournament Friday by splitting a pair of matches, and then finished off the tournamnet by losing to both Rockhurst (Mo.) and Mesa State (Colo.) on Saturday.  The Wildcats (1-3) opened the tournament with a five-game win over Wayne State (Neb.) before losing to Drury (Mo.) in four games.

The Wildcats then dropped a pair of matches Saturday to No. 11 Rockhurst in four games and to Mesa State in five games.

ACU opened the invitational tournament Friday by knocking off Wayne State, 18-30, 30-24, 24-30, 30-17, 15-12 in a match that lasted one hour, 45 minues.  The Wildcats then had just 15 minutes to rest before taking on Drury, which won the match, 30-24, 28-30, 30-26, 30-24.

In the loss to Rockhurst, ACU sophomore outside hitter Michelle Bernhardt had 21 kills and 18 digs, while senior outside hitter Haylee Hartline added 12 kills.  The Wildcats then closed out the invitational by falling to Mesa State, which rallied from a 2-1 deficit to pull the win out in five games.

The Wildcats will be back in action this weekend when they play in the Quality Inn / Thunderwolf Invitational at Colorado State-Pueblo.
