Shannon Holloway
Ph.D., M.D.
Orthopaedic Consultant

Dr. Holloway is a native of Georgia. He completed his undergraduate, graduate and doctoral work in Alabama and Florida. He earned his Ph.D. at the University of Florida, School of Medicine in Gainesville, Florida.

As professor of physiology, he taught and conducted research at Michigan State University School of Medicine in East Lansing, Michigan, and at Texas Tech University School of Medicine in Lubbock, Texas. His extensive post-doctoral work included research for the National Institutes of Health (NIH). His works include numerous publications in many prestigious scientific and medical journals.

Dr. Holloway attended medical school at Texas Tech while on the faculty. He also served his orthopaedic residency there, and began his present orthopaedic practice here in Abilene in 1980. He holds longtime memberships in many professional organizations, including the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and the American Orthopedic Society for Sportsmedicine. He has a special interest in promoting sportsmedicine for women.

Dr. Holloway serves annually as Board Examiner for the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery in Chicago. This is a special honor as most Board Examiners are in academic positions. Only a select few private-practice physicians are asked to serve in this capacity. Board exams last four days and judge the qualifications of practicing orthopaedic surgeons.

In appreation for his service and devotion to athletes, Dr. Holloway was named a Honorary Member of SWATA (Southwest Athletic Trainers Society)  July 2005
