WACO -- The ACU women's track and field team posted nine individual provisional qualifiers for the NCAA Division II outdoor championship on Saturday at the Baylor / Dr Pepper Invitational, the first time the full team has competed in an outdoor meet this season.
The ACU men provisionally qualified two individual athletes, and both teams provisionally qualified both their 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams at the meet, which included teams from Baylor, TCU, North Texas, Tarleton State and Angelo State.
On the women's side, senior Trina Cox provisionally qualified in both the 1500 meters and 3000 meters as she was second in the 1500 meters (4:28.0) and first in the 3000 meters (9:40.07). Her time in the 3000 meters is just .07 of a second from being an automatic qualifying time.
Freshman Kim Prather qualified in both the 100 meters (fourth in 11.93) and the 200 meters (fourth in 24.36). Keva Wilkins won the 400 meters with a solid provisional qualifying time of 54.41. Shawna-Kaye Thompson was second in the 100-meter hurdles with a provisional time of 14.56, while Venessa Whittle was second in the 800 meters in a provisional time of 2:11.52. Jessica Hunt also provisionally qualified in the 200 meters, finishing seventh in 24.65.
Junior pole vaulter Angie Aguilar -- who won the NCAA Division II indoor championship two weeks ago in Boston -- finished second on Saturday with a provisional qualifying mark of 11-11.75.
The ACU 4x100 relay team was fifth with a provisional time of 47.00, while the 4x400 relay team was third with a provisional time of 3:43.55.
On the men's side, junior Nicodemus Naimadu won the 1500 meters with a solid provisional time of 3:49.91, and he was second in the 3000 meters in 8:16.02, although the 3000 meters is not an event on the men's side at the national championship meet.
Jordan Johnson was the only other Wildcat to post a qualifying mark, finishing fourth in the 400 meters with a provisional time of 47.77.
The ACU 4x100 relay team was second behind TCU (40.31), checking with a provisional qualifying mark of 40.45, while the 4x400 relay team was fourth with a provisional time of 3:14.78.
Both ACU teams will be back in action Saturday, April 1, at the Oliver Jackson Open at Elmer Gray Stadium on the ACU campus.
