Wildcats add provisional qualifiers

Seven athletes in five events and one relay post qualifying marks

LINCOLN, Neb. -- The ACU men's track and field team provisionally qualified seven athletes in five individual events and one relay Saturday at the Frank Sevigne Classic at the Bob Devaney Center.

The Wildcats will return to action this weekend at the New Mexico Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M. as they continue to prepare for the NCAA Division II indoor championship meet, March 10-11 in Boston.

ACU athletes won three events on their way to posting provisional qualifying marks, including a first-place finish in the distance medley relay (10:05.20).  Philip Birgen won the 5000 meters with a provisional qualifying time of 14:46.09, while Vladyslav Gorbenko won the triple jump with a provisional mark of 51-3.75.

Also posting provisional qualifying marks over the weekend were Marvin Bien-Aime (6.85 in the 50 meters), and Nicodemus Naimadu (4:08.68 for third in the mile).  Senior Delt Cockrell finished third in the 400 meters with a provisional qualifying time of 48.24, while Montez Pride posted a 48.45 in the preliminaries to provisionally qualify.

Yevgen Paschenko provisionally qualified in both the triple jump (50-6.00 for third) and in the long jump (23-4.00 for eighth).
