MEN'S HAMMER
Chris Figures, Cal State-Bakersfield -- National champion (196-5.00)
On winning the hammer:
"It feels good to finally win one after the last couple of days, especially last night (Friday in the shot put).  I wasn't really disappointed about the shot because it was a great competition, but it was emotionally draining and I knew I had to come with everything today.  I can honestly say I don't have anything left today."

On coming in as the top ranked thrower:
"Some guys had closed in over the last few weeks and I was kind of getting nervous.  I knew I had to come in focused and concentrate and then execute."

Moses Tum, Colorado-Colorado Springs, National champion (3:46.30)

On his race strategy:  "I felt good the whole race, and I knew it was going to come down to a kick at the end.  With 150 meters left, I kicked it in and that's exactly what it took."
MEN'S STEEPLECHASE
Nicodemus Naimadu, Abilene Christian -- National champion (8:46.71)
On winning the national championship:
"I was very happy after winning the race.  I have a lot of fun, and I'm happy when I'm out there running and jumping."

On his race strategy:  "With around 300 meters to go, I knew I was going to win, but that I wasn't going to break the meet record. With that in mind, I toned it down to save energy for the 5000 meters."
WOMEN'S 100 METERS
Shandria Brown, Lincoln University -- National champion (11.59)
On winning the national championship:
"I just came out and went for it.  The weather delay made it hard, but I just concentrated and fought through it."
MEN'S 100 METERS
Gregory Bolden, Albany State -- National champion (10.38)
On winning the national championship:
"I haven't lost a race this year, so I was confident coming into the race.  The most important part of the race for me is the start, so I just have to drive ahead to finish ahead."
MEN'S 800 METERS
Nick Lara, Adams State -- National champion (1:49.29)
On his race strategy:
"Coach gave me a race plan, to sit back second or third the first lap and relax.  I saw (ACU's) Lucky (Hadebe) make his move.  It was the exact same move he did at the indoor nationals.  I just anticipated it and stayed relaxed and stayed with him, to hit strong and stay relaxed and keep everything driving home."
WOMEN'S 800 METERS
Kelly Marshall, Lincoln -- National champion (2:11.76)
On winning the national championship:
"It feels great.  I just wanted (the national championship) so bad.  Before I came into it, the two girls from UCSD (UC San Diego) and the Abilene girl (Addeh Mwamba), I really wanted to beat them so badly.  I had to focus and keep my mind straight and know that I wanted it badly and more than they did.  It was very hard, but worth it."
WOMEN'S TRIPLE JUMP
Lynnsey Dailey, Fort Valley State -- National champion (39-11.50)
On winning the national championship:
"I did the triple jump in high school, but I didn't really practice it this year.  Coach just threw me in it in conference to get points and I ended up finishing second and qualifying.  I just wanted to go up there and do my best, and I definitely didn't expect to win."
WOMEN'S POLE VAULT
Chaunte Mitchell, Cal State-Stanislaus -- National champion (13-1.75)
On winning the national championship:
"It feels wonderful.  I've been waiting for this day, and rain or shine, it finally came.  I was really sure the weather was going to be bad, but I decided that no matter what happens, I'm going to finish."
MEN'S HIGH JUMP
Jim Dilling, Minnesota State-Mankato -- National champion (7-1.50)
On winning the national championship:
"It feels good (to win).  Last year at Mount Sac, I no heighted, so it feels good to redeem myself that way.  My individual goal was to be an all-American, and afer getting second to (Keith) Moffatt at indoor nationals, I wanted to get the national championship."

On the rainy weather:  "I was surprised (the apron) was as dry as it was.  I have to give credit, they did a really good job of drying it off, and the folks running the meet a lot of credit, I didn't think it would be that dry."

MEN'S 200 METERS
Marvin Bien-Amie, Abilene Christian -- National champions (20.98)
On winning the national championship:
"I came in confident, but due to the weather, I ran tight the whole race and didn't get a chance to relax and work on the phases of the race.  In the last 50 meters, I tried to accelerate, but I did it running tight.  If I hadn't been tight, the time would have been faster.  By the grace of God, no one got hurt and I ran a great race."
WOMEN'S 200 METERS
Shandria Brown, Lincoln -- National champions  (23.60)

"I knew this was my last race of the day, so I just wanted to give it my all.  I just prayed and asked God to help me.  I knew the people were gunning for me down the stretch and I didn't have anything left to give, so I am glad I could hold them off."
MEN'S 400 HURDLES
Adrian Findlay, St. Augstine's -- National champion (50.86)
On winning the national championship:
"It's been a rough year for me because I have been battling injury.  I am just now at about 80 percent.  Last year at this time, I was running much faster, but I had a good time tonight.  This tells me I can run faster if I train harder.  Being a three-time national champion feels great.  It feels good to win an individual title, but I would rather enjoy at team championship."
MEN'S 400 METERS
Johnsie Liles, St. Augustine's -- National champion (52.60)
On winning the national championship:
"I'm tired, but I worked hard for this.  It took me a while to get to this point, but I am glad to be here.  It feels great and I am happy.  I look forward to U.S. Nationals.  I am not thinking about defending the title the next three years right now, but I am sure I will eventually."
MEN'S 400 METERS
Marvin Essor, Abilene Christian -- National champion (45.49)
On his race strategy:
"I was expecting to win the event.  I got out casual as usual and I never expected the guys out in front of me to get to us so soon.  That made me run my second 200 faster, so it worked out for me in the end.  This was a great way to end my last year... undefeated and a two-time national champion.  I couldn't have ended it any better."
WOMEN'S 100 HURDLES
Unyime Akpan, St. Augustine's -- National champion (13.92)
On winning the national championship:
"It feels great to win a championship. I owe it all to God and my coach.  Coach told me my time would come.  Everything happens for a reason, and I knew when God was ready, my time would come."

On the weather delay:  "I think I could run a little faster.  I was warm and ready to go before the rain came.  We all did as well as we could after the delay, but I was a lot looser before the rain."

MEN'S 5000 METERS
Nicodemus Naimadu, Abilene Christian -- National champion (13:59.67)
On winning the national championship:
"I was able to win the steeplechase by a good margin, but this was a very competitive race and our hard practices paid off.  I have been working very hard for this competition with the idea that we train hard to win easy."
WOMEN'S 5000 METERS
Janet Kogo, Harding -- National champion (16:31.68)
On winning the national championship:
"I was so sore after the 10K and the 5K prelims last night that I just wanted to run and have fun tonight.  I have struggled with injuries in the past and this is my first year that I have been injury free for the whole year.  I am very excited not just for the wins but because my mom was here from Kenya to see it."
