Wildcats win five events at ACU Open

Greenlee, men's 4x100 relay post better provisional marks

ABILENE -- The Abilene Christian men's and women's track and field teams won five events Thursday at the ACU Open at Elmer Gray Stadium in the final tune-up for both teams before the national meet later this month.

ACU will host the NCAA Division II outdoor track and field championship meet, May 26-28, at Elmer Gray Stadium.  For more information about tickets, please call 325-674-2287.

Both the men's and women's 4x400 relay teams won their respective races with the men's team posting a time of 3:10.25, while the women clocked a 3:45.63.

On the women's side, Angie Aguilar won the pole vault with a mark of 12 feet, 6.0 inches, while Brandy Lynch won the shot put with a mark of 42-5.25.  On the men's side, senior Ben Washington won the triple jump with a mark of 49-9.75.

The Wildcats didn't add any other automatic or provisional qualifiers for the national meet, but sophomore hurdler Stephon Greenlee and the men's 4x100 relay team did improve their provisional times.  Greenlee finished second in the 400 hurdles with a season-best time of 52.63, while the relay team was second to Texas A&M-Kingsville (40.34), checking in with a season-best mark of 40.51.
