Senior triple-jumper sets sights on NCAA Division II indoor meet

BOSTON -- Abilene Christian's Ben Washington finished ninth in the triple jump Sunday on the final day of the U.S. Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Reggie Lewis Center.

Washington -- the 2003 NCAA Division II indoor and outdoor national champion in the triple jump -- jumped 48 feet, 9.5 inches on his second jump of the competition.  He fouled on both his first and third attempts, and failed to qualify for the final round of jumps.

Washington -- the only collegiate jumper in the competition -- will return to Boston next weekend to compete in the triple jump at the NCAA Division II indoor track and field championship.
