ABILENE -- Twenty ACU student-athletes in six spring sports have been named to their resepctive academic all-Lone Star Conference teams, which were announced by the league office.
ACU had the second-most athletes in the conference named to first team and commissioner's honor roll squads behind the 22 of Tarleton State. The ACU women's track and field team led the way with nine honorees, followed by women's tennis with four, men's track and field with three and baseball and softball with two apiece.
ACU athletes named academic all-conference were junior pole vaulters Katie Eckley and Val Gorter in women's track and field; Rachel Taylor in women's tennis; Manuel Brandeborn in men's track and field; Michele Gereaux in softball; and second baseman Matt Callahan and first baseman Joel Wells in baseball.
To be eligible to earn academic all-conference honors, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore or second-year transfer student and carry at least a 3.20 grade point average. ACUhad 189 student-athletes earn a 3.0 GPA during the 2003-04 school year.
