ABILENE -- Abilene Christian University has been selected as the host site for both the men's and women's NCAA Division II Central Region tennis tournaments, May 5-6, at the Eager Tennis Center on the ACU campus.
Four nationally ranked men's teams will be in action, while three nationally ranked women's teams will be on the courts with both ACU teams entering the tournament as the No. 1 seeds in their respective divisions. Play will begin Thursday, May 5, with semifinal matches, and the championship matches will be played Saturday.
On the men's side, ACU (20-9) will take on No. 4 seed Rockhurst (15-11) at 3:30 p.m. in Thursday's semifinals. The tournament will get started at 9 a.m. with the first men's semifinal between No. 2 Cameron (20-3) and No. 3 Midwestern State (15-11). The men's championship match is set for Friday at 10 a.m.
On the women's side, ACU (29-5) will take on No. 4 seed Drury (13-6) at 1:30 p.m. in Thursday's semifinals. The first women's semifinal will be played at 11:15 a.m. and will pit No. 2 seed Northeastern State (18-3) against No. 3 seed Cameron (20-6). The women's championship match is set for Friday at 12:15 p.m.
The winner of both the men's and women's tournaments will advance to the NCAA Division II national tournament, May 11-14, in Orlando, Fla.
The ACU women have won five straight regional championships, and are seeking their 10th straight berth in the national tournament. The ACU men, meanwhile, have won back-to-back regional titles, and will be seeking their third straight berth in the national tournament.
