Wildcats Hope to Build on Momentum

Teams to get a taste of LSC and regional opponents

The Wildcat tennis teams will be playing at home this weekend with key matches against Lone Star Conference opponent Central Oklahoma and Incarnate Word. Both the men's and women's teams will take on Central Oklahoma at 9 a.m. followed by matches with Incarnate Word beginning at 2 p.m. at Eager Tennis Pavilion.

Each team continued its success with wins over Temple College at home this past Saturday. The men defeated Temple 6-3 giving them the upper hand in seven of their last eight matches, and improved their spring season record to 17-5.

The women continued domination over their opponents, defeating Temple 9-0 for their eighth straight match win, and are a combined 73-1 in singles and doubles play dating back to March 5 in their win over Collin County Community College. The women's overall record going into the weekend is 17-3 for the spring season.

While the women haven't allowed their opponents to even get on the scoreboard, the men's opponents have kept it closer in the past eight matches 44-26.  Sophomore Evan Puglia doesn¹t sweat it though, "We've won lots of close matches, and that has given us the extra confidence to rise above the competition even if we weren't playing our best," he said.

Playing Central Oklahoma will be important this weekend as both teams will get a taste of what they might have face in the LSC tournament April 22-23 in Oklahoma City. Though Incarnate Word isn¹t in the same conference as ACU, they are in the same region. Puglia said that winning will be important because it will help them when it comes time to seed teams for the regional tournament following the LSC championships.

Playing at home will be a treat for both teams who've consistently been on the road the past few weeks.  This weekend's matches will be the first of five home matches for the men's team, and the first of three for the women at home "I'm happy to be playing at home, traveling and making up all the school work has been stressful," Puglia said.
