ACU teams to host regionals

Men, women to host Central Region tournaments next week

ABILENE -- The ACU men's and women's tennis teams will host their respective NCAA Division II Central Region tournaments, May 2-3, at the Eager Tennis Center on the ACU campus.

The ACU men (15-13) won their second straight Lone Star Conference tournament championship last week with a 5-3 win over Cameron in the championship on the Midwestern State campus. The ACU women (25-5), meanwhile, were upset by Northeastern State, 5-4, in the tournament championship match.

Both ACU teams will be the No. 1 seeds in this Central region sectional.

On the women's side, ACU will be joined in the tournament by second-seeded St. Edward's, No. 3 seed Midwestern State and No. 4 seed Tarleton State. ACU is a combined 5-0 against those three teams this season, and should be the overwhelming favorite to win the regional title and make its eighth straight appearance at the NCAA Division II national tournament.

On the men's side, the Wildcats will host No. 2 seed Cameron, No. 3 seed Midwestern State and No. 4 seed Rockhurst, Mo. ACU is a combined 3-0 against Midwestern State (2-0) and Cameron (1-0) and has not played Rockhurst this season. ACU beat both Midwestern State (5-2 in semifinals) and Cameron (5-3 in finals) in last week's LSC tournament.

The national tournament will be played May 8-11 in Alamonte Springs, Fla., with the Central Florida Sports Commission and the Sunshine State Conference serving as co-hosts.
