ABILENE -- ACU head softball coach Chantiel Wilson announced recently that she has added one of the top prep shortstops in West Texas, signing Eula's Courtney Clark to a binding national letter-of-intent. Clark, who will graduate from Eula High School in May 2006, will join the Wildcats next fall in preparation for the 2007 season. She is a three-year all-state selection for the Lady Pirates, who are a combined 68-19-4 in Clark's first three seasons on the field. Last year as a junior she led Eula to a 26-5 record and the team's third straight district championship. Eula, which reached the Class 2A state semifinals in Clark's sophomore season of 2004, reached the reginal finals in 2005. As a junior in 2005, Clark posted career-bests in batting average (.468), RBI (20), hits (53), doubles (10), triples (4), stolen bases (42), slugging percentage (.607) and fielding percentage (.951). She was named first team all-state by both the Texas Sports Writers Association and the Texas Girls Coaches' Association. She's a three-time first team all-state selection by the TGCA, and a three-time all-district selection. As a junior she was the district's Defensive MVP, and as a freshman in 2003 she was the district's Newcomer of the Year. Last year she was among the Fort Worth Star-Telegram's final area leaders in hits (third), stolen bases (first), and runs scored (first with 46).
