ABILENE -- ACU head softball coach Chantiel Wilson announced Tuesday that she has added pitcher / infielder Ashley Bailey of Bakersfield (Calif.) Junior College for the 2007 season. Bailey will red-shirt in 2006 after graduating in December from Bakersfield Junior College. She will officially join the ACU softball team in the fall of 2006. Bailey is the only two-time junior college all-America performer in the 25-year history of the Bakersfield softball program. She was a first team all-conference, first team all-Southern California, first team all-state and first team all-America selection in both 2004 and 2005. As a freshman in 2004 she hit .428 with 57 runs scored, and then as a sophomore in 2005 she hit .440 with 40 runs scored. On the mound she had a 0.88 ERA as a freshman and a 1.25 ERA in 244 innings of work as a sophomore. She finished 30-9 on the mound as a sophomore and only had 12 walks for an average of 0.049 walks per inning. She was a four-year starter on the varsity at Centennial High School in Bakersfield, Calif., where she was a first team all-state selection as a senior in 2003. She hit .420 and had an ERA of 0.05 as a senior. She was a four-time all-area selection, and she also was the Kern County Player of the Year as a senior.
