SAN ANTONIO -- ACU senior first baseman Katie Bryan was named Saturday to the all-tournament team at the NCAA Division II South Central Region Tournament at St. Mary's University.
Bryan, who earlier this month was named the Lone Star Conference South Division Player of the Year, helped the Wildcats to a 1-2 record in their first appearance in the regional tournament. ACU opened the tournament last Thursday with an 8-7 loss to Angelo State, then followed that up Friday with a 6-3 win over Regis and a 4-0 elimination-game loss to Central Oklahoma.
St. Mary's won the regional tournament, hammering defending national champion Angelo State, 12-0, in Saturday's championship game. In two games against the Rambelles in the tournament, the Rattlers outscored ASU 21-1.
Bryan, who hit in the No. 3 spot in the lineup all season, was moved to the leadoff spot for the tournament by ACU head coach Chantiel Wilson, who was the LSC South Division Coach of the Year. Bryan responded, hitting the first pitch she saw in Thursday's game against Angelo State for a home run, one of three she hit in the tournament.
Bryan finished the tournament hitting .500 (4 for 8) with three home runs, three runs scored and three RBI. As a team, the Wildcats blasted six home runs in the tournament, including four in the win over Regis, two each by Bryan and Jade Wilson. ACU finished the season with 62 home runs, the third-highest single-season total in NCAA Division II history. Bryan clubbed 19 runs to give her a school-record 38 during her remarkable four-year career.
