18 ACU athletes earn academic all-LSC

ACU has more honored than any other South Division school

For immediate release 01 May 2002

ABILENE -- Eighteen ACU student-athletes in seven sports -- more than any other school in the Lone Star Conference South Division -- have been named academic all-LSC for spring 2002.

Each athlete selected to the team must be a sophomore in eligibility and carry at least a 3.20 grade point average. From that list of candidates, the league's sports information directors selected the student-athletes to make their respective teams.

The women's track and field team led the way for ACU with four athletes earning academic all-LSC honors and one being named to the Commissioner's Honor Roll. Meredith Garner, Angie Waters, Marichea Austin and Sofi Hildenborg were all named academic all-LSC, while Jane McNeill was named to the honor roll.

The women's tennis team and men's track team each had four athletes honored. The women's tennis team placed Lacy Johnson and Andi Wildner on the academic all-LSC team, while Sarah Taweel and Kristen Chumley were named to the honor roll.

On the men's track and field team, Christie Van Wyk, Jose Meneses, Seth Westmoreland and David Jones were all named academic all-LSC.

Three ACU softball players were honored, including junior pitcher Maurine McWilliams, who was named academic all-LSC. McWilliams will bypass her senior season of eligibility to enter dental school. Veronica Villa and Hilary Miller were each named to the honor roll.

The golf team and baseball team each had one representative on their respective teams with Patrick Buhrmann being named academic all-LSC in golf and Blake Hughes earning the same honor in baseball.
