Ted Sitton

Ted Sitton, 62, was quarterback on ACU's only undefeated, untied football team (11-0) in 1950, and he was offensive coordinator for Wildcat teams in 1973 and 1977 which won Lone Star Conference and NAIA Division I national championships. He was head coach for the Wildcats for six seasons in 1979-84 with LSC Coach of the Year honors in 1981 after an 8-2 season.

He joined the ACU staff in 1967 and coached 20 seasons before becoming the university's director of quality control and safety in 1987. He officially retired from ACU in 1993, but served part-time as offensive coordinator for new head coach Bob Strader in 1993 and 1994.

In the 16 years ACU was in the LSC while Sitton coached at ACU, Wildcat quarterbacks led the league in passing 10 times. He coached six quarterbacks who passed for more than 2,000 yards in one season. A 1954 graduate of ACU, he was a three-sport star at Stamford High School and later coached at Graham and Abilene High before joining the ACU staff. He coached AHS to the state title in track in 1961. His son, Chuck, was an all-America defensive back for the Wildcats in 1977.
