Dr. Paul FaulknerDr. Paul Faulkner was NAIA national champion in the pole vault as a senior in 1952 for the Wildcats, and the four-year letterman was the university's top vaulter and javelin thrower all four seasons (1949-52). He was captain of ACU's first track and field national championship team (NAIA in 1952), and he was a member of Wildcat teams which won three straight Texas Conference titles in 1950-52. He was ranked ninth in the nation among collegiate javelin throwers in 1951 as a junior with a throw of 211-9. Faulkner won the pole vault in 1951 and javelin in 1951 and 1952 at the Texas Relays and the javelin in 1951 and pole vault in 1952 at the Kansas Relays. A 1948 graduate of Paschal High School in Fort Worth, he was the top high school vaulter in the nation and was defeated only four times in his three years of high school competition. He retired as professor of Bible and director of the Marriage and Family Institute at ACU after the 1991-92 school year after 35 years on the ACU faculty. He received B.S. (1952) and M.S. (1961) degrees from Abilene Christian and M.R.E. (1966) and Ed.D. (1968) degrees from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. |
