Ronnie VinsonRonnie Vinson, a 1973 ACU graduate, lives in Hamby and coaches football and girls track at Clyde High School. Vinson was an all-conference and all-America wide receiver for the Wildcats and was drafted by the New Orleans Saints in 1972. Vinson still holds school records for passes caught in a season (82 in 1969) and yards gained receiving in a season (1,241 in 1969) and is second in career yardage gained (2,418). He led the Wildcats in receiving in 1969 (1,241 yards and nine TDs on 82 catches) and 1970 (1,042 yards and nine TDs on 60 catches), and was third in the nation in receiving in 1969. Vinson was a two-time all-Southland Conference performer and was twice named honorable mention all-America. He also was all-Texas College in 1970 and honorable mention on the Southland Conference first decade football team. A 1968 graduate of Abilene High School, Vinson became the head football coach at Abilene Christian High School in 1978. He led the Panthers to the Texas private school state football championship in 1982 and 1987, and also coached the girls track team to two state titles. |
