VALDOSTA, Ga. -- Abilene Christian University golfers Kyle Byerly and Matt Samples each finished in the top 25 Wednesday at the NCAA Division II South Central Region golf tournament at the Kinderlou Forest Golf Course.
Byerly finished at 10-over-par 226 and tied for 14th in the individual medalist race, while Samples finished 13-over-par 229 and tied for 22nd. Neither player advanced to the national tournament.
Byerly finished the tournament by firing a 3-over-par 75 on Wednesday, while Samples finished with a 5-over-par 77.
Byerly double-bogeyed the par-5 fourth hole and then followed that with a bogey on the par-3 fifth hole. He had a bogey on the par-3 eighth hole before closing his front nine with a birdie on the par-4 ninth hole. His round was more balanced on the back nine with a birdie on the par-5 11th hole and a bogey on the par-5 16th hole.
Samples bogeyed the par-4 third holes and followed that with a bogey on the par-3 fifth hole. On the back nine he bogeyed the par-4 10th hole before posting a double-bogey on the par-4 13th hole. He birdied the par-4 16th hole before closing with a bogey on No. 17 and a par on No. 18.
