Copeland adds point guard

New men's basketball coach nabs South Plains transfer

ABILENE - New ACU head men's basketball coach Jason Copeland wasted little time in beginning to put his stamp on the roster, adding junior college transfer Tiago Souza from South Plains College.

As a sophomore, Souza helped South Plains to a 21-10 record in a season that ended in a loss to Temple College in the first round of the NJCAA Region V Tournament. As a freshman, he started 10 of 32 games, averaging 9.9 points, 3.0 assists and 2.5 rebounds per game.

A two-time member of the Brazilian national team, Souza was an honorable mention all-conference selection as a sophomore at South Plains. The 6-2, 190-pound Souza is a native of Sao Paulo, Brazil.
