Wildcats add pair of transfers

ACU nabs pair of transfers, both products of Dallas Kimball

ABILENE -  A pair of former Dallas Kimball standouts announced that they will transfer to Abilene Christian University to play college basketball in 2005-06.

Demarcquez Rembert will transfer to ACU from the University of  Hartford for his final year of eligibility, while Norman Alexander will transfer to ACU from Eastfield Community College for his final two years of eligibility.  Both Rembert and Alexander graduated from Dallas Kimball, Rembert in 2002 and Alexander in 2003.

Rembert, a 6-6, 210-pound forward, helped lead Kimball to a state runner-up finish at the 2002 Class 5A state tournament.  Rembert was a senior on the Kimball team that lost to San Antonio Jay, 54-53, in the state championship game when Jay's Chris Ross hit a halfcourt shot at the buzzer to win the game and the state title for Jay.  As a sophomore at Kimball, Rembert was the Newcomer of the Year in District 8-5A.

He signed with Collin County of high school where as a freshman he averaged 5.3 points and 1.4 rebounds per game for a team that finished 25-7.  As a sophomore, Rembert averaged 14.7 points and 4.0 rebounds per game for a team that finished 29-3 and was ranked No. 2 in the nation.  Rembert was named to all-conference and all-region first teams.  Last season at Hartford, he played in 27 games, averaging 4.2 points and 1.5 rebounds per game in 11.4 minutes per game.

"Demarcquez brings instant maturity and experience to our team," said ACU first-year head coach Jason Copeland.  "He comes from great high school and junior college programs, and last year he played on the Division I level.  He will bring that winning attitude to our program the day he steps on campus."

Alexander was a two-year starter at Eastfield where as a sophomore he led his team to the NJCAA Division II national championship game.  Alexander averaged 12 points and eight rebounds per game over two seasons, and led his team to a 28-5 record last season.

As a senior at Kimball in 2002-03, the 6-4, 185-pound guard averaged 12 points and six rebounds, while as a junior he averaged seven points per game for the Class 5A state runner-up.

"Norman has a chance to be a great player at ACU," Copeland said.  "He comes from two winning programs where he has played for both a state championship and a national championship.  We think he'll bring that winning mentality to our program."
