Wells earns academic honor

Junior DH named first team academic all-District VI

ABILENE -- ACU junior designated hitter Joel Wells has been voted to the 2005 ESPN The Magazine academic all-District VI college baseball team.

Wells is the only Wildcat on the first team, and he will now move on to the national ballot where he will be a candidate for academic all-America honors.  Wells, a junior from Abilene, carries a 3.88 grade point average while majoring in biology.

Wells, who hit .354 with five home runs and a team-best 55 RBI, was a first team all-Lone Star Conference South Division selection as the designated hitter.  Wells, who plans on entering medical school when his eligibility runs out, missed one game of ACU's April 16 doubleheader against Angelo State so that he could take his medical school entrance exam.
