Or conferences. We're inviting you to two conferences at once, the annual meeting of the Southwest Conference on Christianity and Literature and a new conference, Inscription, on the Christian teaching of writing, rhetoric and literature.

The national Conference on Christianity and Literature, with members in a dozen countries, is committed to the stewardship of human language and the linguistic arts. Often degraded in the arena of political, religious, and commercial activity, words remain a preeminent medium of the Faith and a precious conservator of human culture. As “people of the Book,” therefore, Christian believers are called to care for this invaluable gift of language and for written texts through which wisdom is transmitted from one generation to another.

The SWCCL presentations will keep their traditional focus on literary analysis and interpretive approaches. Inscription will add a focus upon the meeting of theory and praxis. Together, SWCCL and Inscription will equip to help preserve God's gifts of communication in a culture that continues to undermine them. How can language be better preserved from the attenuating influences oftentimes active in contemporary society? How can the value of literary art be better conveyed to those who have not been adequately trained to appreciate its merits? These and other questions will be considered as we convene to enjoy one another’s insights.
