High Time in Tulsa: 2010 Spring Regional Conference
  • Mark your schedule for March 26-27-28, 2010, when GPHC meets in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Co-sponsors will be the honors programs at Tulsa Community College (www.tulsacc.edu, led by David Lawless) and Oral Roberts University (www.oru.edu, led by John Korstad). Click here for the conference website and below for updated guidelines for the Boe competition for research papers.
  • In spring 2011, we migrate to the Honors College at the University of Texas-Arlington (honors.uta.edu, led by Karl Petruso). Many thanks to David, John, and Karl to committing to host these exciting conferences.
  • Downloads to help you plan: Boe guidelines
New dues invoice and new exec secretary/treasurer: Andrew Yox has graciously agreed to be drafted as EST. So all new memberships and all dues payments go to him. He has emailed invoices to member institutions, and you can click here to download copies. Active membership (with paid-up institutional dues) is required for your students to attend the spring conference and to compete for the Boe prizes.

New Video to help prepare student presenters:

  • The spring conference is a great place for your students to learn the craft of presenting. Thanks to the Honors Program at Tulsa Community College, you can have your students watch mms://streaming.tulsacc.edu/media/dlawless/mona.wmv as a model. Mona Easterling of TCC gave this talk on "Awareness of Emotions and Their Expression" at the Nebraska conference this spring.

What is the GPHC?

The Great Plains Honors Council serves collegiate honors programs in Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Texas. Coordinating its activities with the National Collegiate Honors Council (NCHC), the Great Plains organization promotes the flow of information, ideas, fellowship and professional encouragement throughout its member programs. Our spring regional conference always emphasizes student presentations and the region-as-text. For other details, see our constitution.

The windmill that is part of the Great Plains Honors Council logo is a distinctive feature of our six-state region. It represents cooperation with the environment – the bringing to light of hidden resources – ingenuity – perseverance – the willingness to catch inspiration from every direction.
