Recent ACU grad wins state writing contest

January 6, 1999 Thomas Ward, a December 1998 graduate of Abilene Christian University from Nashville, Tenn., won first place in the undergraduate fiction writing contest sponsored by the Texas Association of Creative Writing Teachers.
Ward has been invited to read his story, "The Perfect Twelve," at a TACWT conference in February in Kerrville. He also receives a cash award.
At the December commencement, Ward, a theatre major, was presented with the ACU Trustee's Award for significant accomplishments and contributions to both his field and the university.
As a student at ACU, Ward has received theatre scholarships for the past three years and worked for the Actors Studio in Louisville, Ky. He had lead roles in two Homecoming Musicals, along with many other roles in ACU productions. His role in "A Midsummer's Night Dream" won him an Abbie Award from the Abilene Reporter News.
Ward also has written a play that was produced as the 1997 ACU Studio Premiere production, and was a finalist in the national Christians in Theatre Arts playwriting competition.
