ACU Gallery Show Features Christian Artists Worldwide

for immediate release Feb. 11, 1998

Work by members of the international organization Christians in the Visual Arts (CIVA) will be on display Feb. 16-March 13 at Abilene Christian University's Shore Art Gallery.

"CIVA Creates the Portrait" includes 33 different pieces by as many artists selected from more than 500 entries. Jurors Lennart Anderson of New York City and Douglas Giebel, of Rochester, N.Y., said the resulting exhibit provides a strong indication of the health of portraiture today.

"...'CIVA Creats the Portrait' explores the richness of expression possible in this genre from a Christian perspective," Giebel said. "Paintings, drawings, prints, and photographs are included in a variety of settings and styles..."

The exhibit has toured extensively throughout the United States, arriving at ACU from Grantham, Pa. The exhibit travels next to Portland, Ore.

The Shore Art Gallery, located southwest of Moody Coliseum, is open to the public 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Admission is free.
