January 4, 1999 · Dr. Merlin Mann has been selected as a 1999 Fellow in the Institute for Journalism Excellence project, sponsored by the American Society of Newspaper Editors. The key objectives of this program are to update the educator's hands-on experience and to impact the newsroom's understanding of journalism education. The program is designed to help educators get a fresh perspective on journalism and forge ties between the academy and newspapers.
· Dr. Virginia Mosier, a 1973 ACU graduate and associate professor of education at Texas A&M, Corpus Christi, was presented the National Service Award by the American Vocational Association, Trades and Industrial Education Division, at the national AVA convention in New Orleans. The award recognizes educators who have made the highest meritorious contributions to the improvement, promotion, development and progress of trades and industrial education in America. Dr. Mosier is the daughter of Martha and the late Bert Mosier, long-time ACU professor.
· Rickey Pittman, a 1992 ACU graduate, won first place in the 1999 Ernest Hemingway Festival's short fiction competition.
