WHY: Mann Middle School is one of ACU's professional development school partners. ACU students studying to be teachers must complete a 45-hour internship during the semester before student teaching, and those getting certified at the secondary level go serve as interns at Mann. The college students actually attend classes on the public school campuses taught by ACU education faculty members Roger Gee and Al Ogren.

ACU and its Education Department wanted to do something to help Mann's faculty and students because of how much they have helped ACU students become better teachers, said Dana Hood, instructor of education and a coordinator of the second annual event.

"This is really an expansion of our partnership," Hood said. "We are hoping to expose students to college life. They may live in Abilene, but many of them haven't been on a college campus. We want to open their eyes to the opportunities and let them know what a college looks like and feels like."
